A significant area of skills shortage being reported across the transport sectors the heavy vehicle driver.
Profile – Driver (Heavy Vehicle)
Road Freight Drivers and Linehaul Drivers generally assemble, load, secure and unload multi-axle vehicles; transport goods and materials and perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance.
Specialities might include, livestock, dangerous goods, concrete agitator, refrigerated van, furniture van or car transporters.
These drivers will generally have a Heavy Rigid or Heavy Combination licence.
Multi-Combination Drivers (otherwise known as Linehaul Drivers or Road Train Drivers) assemble, load, unload multi combination vehicles; transport goods and materials and perform routine maintenance.
Specialities may include B-double or road train vehicles.
These drivers will hold a Multi-Combination licence.
The national qualifications for a heavy vehicle driver are the Certificate III Transport and Logistics (Road Transport) and the Certificate IV Transport and Logistics (Road Transport). (Please contact us for more information).
