Trainer drivers are generally responsible for the preparation and safe operation of their vehicle. A driver must also have the ability to identify any vehicle faults and carry out emergency maintenance. Most trains generally transport either passengers or freight.
The national qualification for driving a locomotive is the Cert IV in Transport Logistics (Rail Operations). Usually, train driver training is carried out by rail operators in conjunction with a training organisation.
