Introduction to Cadetships

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations under the Alternative Pathways program

The Transport and Logistics Industry is struggling to compete with other industries to recruit young people into a rapidly ageing workforce. The cadetship provides the industry an opportunity to promote itself to potential employees.

Employers want people who are work ready, that is, who have the basic employability skills for their industry. The cadetship will develop the skills necessary to work and study in the Transport and Logistics industry.

Through the cadetship young people are engaged in an  innovative approach to logistics training that uses an integrated approach to learning and assessment. Using the workplace as the centrepiece of learning cadets learn their newly chosen profession under the guidance of highly experienced and dedicated logistics managers.  Workbased learning, using projects and action learning, has proven a good fit with the Transport and Logistic culture and the key skills and competencies required of the jobs.  In addition, cadets undertake block release at TAFE which on succesful completion will result in the awarding of a Diploma Qualification. The Diploma of Logistics is a qualification that has been deemed by the industry to be suitable for integrated learning and assessment because it includes significant technical or practical outcomes that can be achieved in a real or simulated working environment.
